2023 SMOKiN’ PULLED PORK COOK-OFF Instructions (i.e., RULES)

All teams in the 2023 Pulled Pork Cook-Off must be pre-registered and pay the $75.00 entry fee to compete in the contest. Register by mail to BELIA c/o Andreens 22658 County Road 5 NW., Big Lake MN 55309; please make your check payable to BELIA. Registration by July 31st reserves your spot and allows time to order the necessary meat. BELIA will furnish the pork for each Team; pulled pork will be made available to the public for tasting at your cook site. Public will trade one ticket for a 2 oz. sample of pulled pork. Each person buying tickets will be able to vote for their favorite in the People’s Choice category.

Rules

1. All team members must be at least 14 years old. The Head Cook must be at least 18 years old or have a parent or guardian onsite.

2. Each team will be allocated 10’ x 10’space to cook in. There will be no electrical plug-ins.

3. Each team will provide a grill/cooker to be used exclusively by that team within the confines of the team’s assigned cooking space. The use of a single cooking device by more than one team is not permitted. One team, one grill, one entry.

4. Wood fired, charcoal fired, pellet fired, propane or electric cookers are permitted. If you are using an electric smoker, you must supply your own electrical service; personal generators are allowed.

5. Contestants must adhere to all electrical, fire, health, and other codes whether local, county, state or federal.

6. All teams will be allowed to setup and cook their pork shoulder on the premises starting Friday night.

7. All team members will be required to wear shirt, pants, and shoes while in the contest area.

8. All contestants are expected to respect the rights of other teams. Have fun and be respectful.

9. Any outside beverages must be non-alcoholic and kept within the team cook site.

10. No campers will be allowed to park before 11 PM Friday night. All campers will need to be removed by

9:00 AM Saturday morning. Please be respectfully to other teams that are trying to sleep after midnight.

11. Each team will provide their own seasonings, sauces, and serving tools.

12. Judging: Entries must be submitted in the Turn-in box provided. Sufficient pulled pork samples will be

needed for six (6) judges. No marks or items may be placed in the box that may identify the entry to a person or team.

13. Judging will be based on three criteria: Appearance, taste, and tenderness. Garnish is optional; Judging will not grade based on garnish.

14. Plates or boats will be provided for public sampling.

Timeline:

Friday August 11th 8:00 pm - Set Up

9:00 pm - Cook’s meeting and pork handed out

Saturday August 12th 1:30 pm - Judging: Turn-in sample plates for judging

1:45 pm – 4:00pm Public Sampling

4:30 pm - Awards Presented

When: Saturday August 12th, 2023 Judging at 1:30pm

Entry Fee: $75 Pay by check made payable to ‘BELIA’. Entry Fees go to pay administrative cost, Cash prizes and to help support Big Eagle Lake.

1st prize $250.00, 2nd prize $200.00, 3rd prize $100.00 and people’s Choice $100.00.

Because the time it takes to smoke Pull Pork, Lupulin Brewing will allow you to setup Friday night and smoke all night ☺
